On the dock in front of my cabins at Bruce Lake.

Since I have been back in Alaska I have been busy working on my real estate and playing good landlady. Lots of maintenance projects. It’s spring, so clean up and refresh time.

I’m getting stronger and healthier every day and attribute that to having gone back to the gym to work with my personal training and friend Lynn Reynolds at Denali Gymnastics and CrossFit. Having someone ensure you are aligned, lifting properly, pushing yourself to get stronger and more powerful is having a very positive impact. The road to good health takes work and I’m finally feeling the benefits of the effort.

I also spent time this past week listening to the Food Revolution Summit Because nutrition is the other key factor toward a long, healthy, vibrant life. I am doing much better eating raw, unprocessed foods. Today when John Robbins talked about how other countries, where people are much healthier than Americans, use spices like Turmeric, peppers, red chili, fennel, garlic, thyme… In America our food contains high levels of sugar, high fructose corn syrup and fat to make it taste good. Our foods has lots of empty calories filling us with junk food and robbing our bodies of the vital nutrients we need to achieve and maintain good health.

No fricking wonder we are getting fat, unhealthy and unable to do the things that truly make us happy and radiant. The food industry has truly highjacked our ability to be healthy by getting us hooked on all the wrong foods. And because these foods are cheap and readily accessible, it’s all lots of people can actually afford.

I realize and agree that people have the right to make their own choices. Eat what you want. But Robbins is right, the food industry has hooked people on junk food that our bodies crave despite the fact it is making us sick and killing us.

Food has the power to heal you but it has to be real food. Made by God. Not highly processed junk food that tastes good but does nothing to heal or help you.

I’m convinced that learning what to eat, when and how is the key to finding the path back to health and I am excited to finally be on that path. I also realize I have a lot to learn because when I went to my cupboard this morning to fix breakfast, I realized all I have is cereal, milk… Yikes… I need to go shopping and buy organic fruits that don’t have pesticides poisoning me and some raw vegetables.

Stay tuned for the next challenge. What to eat. Tonight I’m fixing spaghetti squash with grass fed beef sauce seasoned with turmeric, garlic, onions and peppers, artichoke and salad. Yum.
