Today my friend Merletta had her right hand reconstructed to repair years of damage caused by arthritis. This is her third major surgery this year and the first two were pretty horrible in terms of her stress and recovery so I felt it important she have someone here to help this time. Especially since this is her dominate hand.
The day went nearly perfect with everything unfolding right on-time and as expected. No waiting, no surprises. She also warned the anesthesiologist she is a lightweight and didn’t want to get sick from the drugs. They opted to keep her awake and use sedatives and a local which was great and made everything unfold much easier. She was amazed at how well she felt shortly after and did well during the day after we got her home and fed her lunch.
I was surprised she was alert and awake until after 7 pm. She is now sleeping and hopefully will continue on to a swift, successful and speedy recovery.
